Twitter complicates the access to the reserve-chronological feed. It rolls out the update that will complicate the task. Last year the company tested this idea on iOS users.

The new update that was recently announced by Twitter makes it harder for users to use the reverse-chronological feed. The main idea behind the update is to promote an algorithmically served timeline that is already there. This new update is already there for the owners of iOS phones. Soon it will be revealed for Android owners as well. It happens at the same time as the web version’s attempt to use the Latest and Home timelines. The latest feed is based on the reverse-chronological order, while Home is based on an algorithm.

Owners of iOS mobile devices began to notice the Latest and Home tabs on Twitter behind the three stars icon in the right upper corner. Users can now switch from one scheme to another. If you need an algorithmically served feed all you need to do is tap the icon and choose the right option. Yet, there is only one problem with the new update. Home tab is not revealed automatically on the app. If users do not want the timeline based on an algorithm, they can get easily frustrated by the absence of a simple tool in front of them.

The new update is not that new, to be fair. The algorithmically served timeline was introduced back in 2016 by Twitter. Since that time, the company has actively tried to promote it, while lots of users prefer to use the old way. Based on the relevance to the chronology, the timeline was criticized by numerous experts. Yet, developers believe that this timeline is more advanced and more suitable for users.
