Instagram plans to phase out the Shopping Page in favor of other tools that generate direct ad revenue. It is reported that developers want to focus on short-form methods rather than promoting long-term projects.

Last week, Meta employees received a memo stating that they will be phasing out personalized Shopping Pages by March 2023 due to a change in priorities. First of all, these changes affect the company's plans for advertising monetization. It does not mean that you will not be able to shop through Instagram. It will still be possible, but the developers will focus on other video advertising features that are expected to generate more revenue. In particular, testing a new separate app is scheduled for this week. At its core, it will resemble the Shopping Page in a slightly modified form.

This change in the development vector is associated with a significant decrease in the total number of purchases made through Instagram and the abandonment of commercial initiatives on other Meta projects. Back in the summer, the company representatives announced to their employees that they were suspending the development of some tools like Family & Friends Shopping and community shopping projects. Of course, completely abandoning the purchase functions would be a big mistake. Instagram still retains an interest in its development in the e-commerce direction but will now look for more effective technologies.

Along the way to commercialize its products, Meta also plans to offer users more paid features across all platforms. Only the company's plans are currently known; detailed information about what instruments could be is not yet available.

Will removing the Shopping Page on Instagram affect you? How often do you use this tab? Do you think the decision to turn it into a separate application is effective.
