This year on Steam has been incredibly fruitful in terms of game releases. The number of titles launched in 2023 exceeded the previous record of 2022 by more than 2000 games. A total of 14,531 games were released compared to the prior year's count of 12,562. This represents not just a vast quantity of games but also a nearly 14% increase.

The report's data is sourced from Steamdb and includes information dating back to 2006 when far fewer games were launched on the platform. Historical data shows that between 2006 and 2013, an average yearly release count ranged from about 200-300 games. It's common for around 40 new titles to drop daily, with New Year's Day of 2024 seeing an impressive launch of 36 fresh titles.

The quality and memorability of these numerous releases are another discussion altogether. Despite the likelihood that many may be classified as mediocre at best, we are undeniably in a golden era for gaming. Developers across all scales are provided opportunities to make their creations widely accessible. Here's hoping for even more game launches on Steam in 2024 so that we can break yet another record next year.
