Google stops the sales of its Home Mini device. Home Mini was released back in 2017. Two years later when the company came up with Nest Mini, they totally abandoned the original version. While you still can purchase the classic Home Mini version, you will not find this speaker in Google Store.

On December 20, the button near Home Mini was changed to “No longer available.” This smart speaker could be purchased for a long time even after Nest Mini became available. Users could choose any of them in Google Store, while the price was the same. You could buy it for $24.99 in November. Yet, close to the end of sales Home Mini was not available in all colors originally created: Chalk, Aqua, Coral, and Charcoal.

Home Mini did not have lots of features that Nest offers, including powerful bass, ultrasonic senses that can light up LEDs, far-field third microphone, machine learning chip for quickly processing commands, or wall mounting. Nest Mini provides all these services to the user. Home Mini had a micro-USB port instead of a barrel plug connector which was preferred by many users. Yet, it had the issue with hardware and unexpected voice recordings. Google fixed the problem by disabling the feature completely, only later adding the play and pause feature.

The secret of Home Mini longevity could probably be found in the amount of models Google produced in the first place. There are many of these speakers available in other stores if you want one. Exceptions are Target and Best Buy that do not offer old models of the smart speaker. Google tried to sell these models widely in numerous promotions. Once they were selling Home Mini for $9.99 using Assistant.
