Last week, Neal Mohan, a chief product officer, shared the platform's plans for the coming year on the official YouTube blog. He spoke on current trends, development directions, NFTs, and much more. According to him, online broadcasts are the application's main focus in the near future. According to company statistics, from the beginning of 2020 to the end of 2021, users began to watch live broadcasts almost three times more often.

Related to this direction are other development plans for YouTube, particularly the launch of live-stream purchases in partnership with major creators like Gordon Ramsay and MrBeast. The Holiday Stream and Shop event, held last November, garnered over 2 million total views in a week of broadcasting. Of course, the company will try to capitalize on this and increase performance, especially since competitors like TikTok are also active in this direction.

YouTube is trying to overtake TikTok not only in this functionality. Its Shorts are pretty popular, and their total number of views has exceeded 5 trillion since their launch. The company also tries to work in this direction, providing authors with more opportunities to connect with the public and looking for new ways to monetize.

Mohan also made it clear to readers that NFT integration will likely be in the future. This process will help creators share unique content with fans. Although the attitude towards various tokens is somewhat controversial now, no one will deny that they are really an actual trend. From this follows the next thought that YouTube considers developing its own metaverse, which will have a lot of interactive content to keep viewers engaged. Probably YouTube Studio will not be left without a new round of development.

These innovations and plans show how much the company strives to catch up and overtake industry giants like TikTok. What do you think, which of the described ideas will be implemented shortly?
