It looks like Live Studio, the new app represented by TikTok, violates the licensing policy from OBS. Supposedly, it uses OBS code for work. The livestreaming app was created for Windows and it probably uses Open Broadcaster Software, which is a free-of-charge livestreaming service. Since OBS is open-source, usually it would not be an issue. However, TikTok does not meet licensing requirements for free software.
The whole problem was released on Twitter after one user made screenshots with the code of Live Studio. According to this user, TikTok made an app that is a fork of OBS and not a legal one. According to the claims, OBS was cruelly used by TikTok that violated the rules by copying free livestreaming service and putting the new interface on it.

Apart from that, another user says that TikTok has to make the source code available for the public if it took OBS’ code. According to the basic requirements of the GNU General Public License, everyone can use the code, just let it be available for others on their software. OBS developer Ben Torell replied to these tweets. He said that while both users were right about the rules for using the code, the company is willing to work with TikTok openly. Torell mentioned that they want to arrange friendly relations with a popular network as long as they do not violate the rules. In October Trump Media and Technology Group made a similar mistake and did not make the source code for the social network of Donald Trump, Truth. They have used Mastodon open-source code.

Live Studio testing is already on. Only a few days back TikTok welcomed a small group of users into the live streaming network. The company did not reply to accusations from Twitter.
