During the summer of 2023, many esports professionals from various gaming communities descended upon Saudi Arabia to participate in the Gamers8 festival. For several weeks, this festival featured various games across different tournaments, with substantial monetary rewards for winners. Despite providing thrilling competitive action, the event faced criticism for potentially being a tool for sportswashing by the Saudi government.

Nevertheless, the success of Gamers8 was undeniable, prompting its Saudi Arabian sponsors to confirm its return in 2024 as the rebranded Esports World Cup. The event's prestige seems to have grown significantly, drawing interest from major industry players such as Riot Games.

Esports journalist Jacob Wolf has disclosed that a League of Legends tournament will be held during the festival. Specific details on how League of Legends will be incorporated remain vague; however, it's been noted that it will commence in early July. With League of Legends being the first confirmed game at next year's event—rumored to offer the largest prize pool ever seen in esports—anticipation is mounting.

As word spreads about this colossal festival, we expect more details to emerge regarding what could become one of esports' landmark events.
