As great as GTA V is, it’s getting old (not obsolete yet, but it’s a question of time). Rumors of GTA VI have been circulating for recent years, but no official comments had been given… until recently. Now it’s official: the sixth installment of the legendary series is in development. And though it can take years before we see at least a preview, the fact is encouraging.

The official statement was made on Friday, February 4, in the official Rockstar Games blog. Little has been detailed, though, if anything at all. While this counts as a firsthand confirmation, a simple phrase about the next entry development being “well underway” tells nothing about the status of the development itself. Projects like this can be made not even in years but in decades. While Rockstar itself isn’t generous in its comments, leaks are surprisingly absent at all.

So far, the company is obviously focused on preparing the polished version of GTA V and GTA Online for the next-gen consoles. The release of GTA Trilogy was a feast of mistakes and bugs, making Rockstar Games officially apologize and withdraw the remastered version until the worst bugs were fixed. That’s not the sort of experience one wants to relive. This means that Rockstar will try to avoid this at any cost with the next-gen version, getting focused on this.

Probably the potential GTA VI will not be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If they manage to release it before the new generation of consoles arrives, this will make the job easier, at least in terms of compatibility. But still, this can mean up to six or seven years before the release. And this means that GTA V is still the king of the genre for all these years.

What do you hope to see in the next GTA? Which of your favorite characters do you think it needs? And do you still enjoy GTA V/Online? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
